New Guidance from the Department of Justice on Protecting Religious Liberty in the USA

In a pair of memos initiated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Department of Justice (DOJ) recently issued extensive new guidance on protecting religious liberty in the United States.

The first memo directed to all federal executive departments and agencies lays out 20 guiding principles which these administrative agencies and executive departments will now be expected to use in carrying out their duties. The second memo specifically written to his department (DOJ) discusses how this guidance should be implemented. Together, these memos provide important insights into how the current Administration plans to go about protecting religious freedom for all Americans, consistent with current federal law and the First Amendment.

We would encourage anyone serving in the local church and/or other faith-based ministries to read both memos and become familiar with their content and to encourage your congregation and friends to do likewise.
